GAIL (India) Ltd (GAIL) is planning to construct the Kochi-Kayamkulam Gas Pipeline project from Kochi to the NTPC thermal power plant in Kerala, India.
The project involves the construction of 120km sub-sea gas pipeline to evacuate gas from the LNG terminal at Puthyvypeen. Out of 120km pipeline, 117 km will be off-shore while 1.5 km each will be onshore on Vypeen and Kayamkulam.
It includes the construction of storage tanks, pumping station, and the installation of safety systems.
Fugro Survey India Ltd has been appointed as the study consultant.
In December 2010, GAIL submitted application document for Environment Clearance.
In September 2011, the project received approval from the Union Ministry of Environment.
The project is facing delay due to power purchase agreement (PPA) by the Kerala State Electricity Board.
