Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (FMG) is undertaking the development of an iron ore mine in Nullagine, Western Australia, Australia.
The project involves the construction, development, and operation of a surface open-pit iron ore mine and associated infrastructure with a production capacity of 30MTPA of ore on 1400ha of land.
The project includes the construction of associated mining infrastructure, accommodation facilities, an airport and a 100km rail spur to connect to Fortescue’s existing port and rail infrastructure and other related facilities.
In August 2010, exploration and drilling works commenced on the project.
In February 2012, FMG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iron Ore Holdings (IOH) to include IOH’s Iron Valley in an expanded Nyidinghu development and mining program.
In June 2012, the study team completed the first stage drilling program.
On February 25, 2013, FMG released the environmental consultation documents for public comment.
Feasibility study is underway and FMG is in the process of finalizing whether to develop Eliwana or Nyidinghu mine.
