Fairfax County (FC) is undertaking the construction of public safety headquarters center in Virginia, the US.

The project involves the construction of a 25,455m2 building. It includes the construction of an eight-story office building, work stations, training centers and a five-level, 850-space secured parking garage for public safety vehicles and the installation of elevators, safety and security systems.

HOK Group, Inc. has been appointed as architect, GeoStructures Inc. and Engineering Consulting Services as geo-technical consultants, William H. Gordon Associates as civil engineer, and Restl Designers Inc. as structural engineer.

On October 9, 2013, FC issued the request for qualification (RFQ) for construction contractor with documents submission deadline as November 8, 2013.

Archer Western Contractors, LLC, Balfour Beatty Construction, The Christman Company, Clark Construction Group, LLC, Manhattan Construction Company, Hensel-Phelps Construction Co. were pre-qualified bidders for the project.

In March 2014, FC issued the request for proposal (RFP) for the same with the bid submission due date as April 28, 2014.

On July 29, 2014, Manhattan Construction Co. was appointed as construction contractor.

On September 16, 2014, the ground breaking ceremony was held at the project site. In July 2015, 20% construction works were completed.

As of March 2016, 54% of construction works completed.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a 25,455m2 institutional building at Monument Drive, east of Legato Road, Fairfax, Virginia, the US.

The US$142 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of an eight-story office block

2. Construction of work stations

3. Construction of training centers

4. Construction of multipurpose rooms

5. Construction of a five-level, 850-space secured parking garage for public safety vehicles
