The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is planning to construct the second runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria.
The project involves the construction of a 3.8km runway. It will include the construction of taxiway, drainage channel, culverts, fence/patrol road, access roads and other related facilities, and the installation of electrical infrastructure and fire-fighting systems.
The project will be developed through Private Public Partnership (PPP) funding.

In January 2016, FAAN issued expression of interest (EoI) for consultancy services with February 15, 2016 as the submission deadline. The scope of the contract covers the design of new runway for a minimum critical aircraft of the A380-800F series with other ancillary works at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The scope shall include both Pre and Post contract Consultancy Services including the topographical survey work of the acquired airport land; digitalised mapping of the entire airport land; subsoil investigation of the airport land; environmental impact assessment of the proposed development; geometric and structural design of the runway, taxiway pavements and associated facilities; design of Airfield Lighting System to meet CAT III International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards; design of associated ancillary structures to meet ICAO and Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other international standards; preparation of tender documents and develop safety and security procedure for the project.
