Emirates Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) LLC (Emirates LNG), a company formed by Mubadala Oil & Gas, a business unit of Mubadala Development Corporation (MDC) is planning to undertake the construction of a refinery in Fujairah, the UAE.
The project involves the construction of a refinery with a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day (bpd). It includes the construction of storage tanks, natural gas liquids (NGL) extraction unit, a processing unit, a distillation unit, the installation of safety systems and laying of pipelines.
The project is planned to be developed in two phases: The first phase includes the construction of a Refinery and Power Plant and the second Phase includes the construction of a Petrochemical complex.
In 2010, Poten & Partners was appointed as feasibility study consultant.
In the Second quarter of 2012, Poten & Partners completed the feasibility study works.
In September 2013, Emirates LNG issued tenders for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in two packages namely EPC-1, which include the process units and EPC-2 will cover the infrastructures, offsites and utilities, with submission of commercial bids in March 2015.
Emirates LNG shortlisted GS Engineering & Construction and Samsung Engineering for the EPC Contract. However in February 2017, tenders were cancelled.
Technip was awarded the FEED contract. In August 2015, Front-end engineering design (FEED) works completed.
In May 2016, the project was put on hold. In June 2017, project plans were revived and put on track by Emirates LNG.
Feasibility studies are underway.
