Emaar Middle East (EME), a joint venture between Emaar Properties and Saudi-based real estate company Al Oula Real Estate Development Company, is undertaking the construction of a mixed-use development in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The project involves the construction of a mixed-use development on a site area of 500,000m2 and being executed in phases.

It comprises on two key sites, first is located along King Abdullah Road over an area of 413,000m2 area and second is located along Abdullah Al Suleiman Street over an area of 140,000m2.

It also includes the construction of 6,000 residential units, 230,000m2 commercial space, and 75,000m2 retail space.

The first phase known as Abraj Al Hilal includes the construction of three, high rise residential towers ranging from 19 to 22-story and three 21-story towers comprising 283 apartments.

The second phase called as Burj Al Aamal includes the construction of 27-story business tower offering open office spaces.

In November 2006, project management consultant (PMC) contract awarded to Truner Arabia. Zuhair Fayez Partnership has been appointed as architect, HOK International and Saudi Diyar Consultant as design consultants for the project.

In January 2007, the tender for main construction contract was issued. In May 2007, Emaar decided to redesign the scheme.

In January 2008, the infrastructure contract was awarded to Al Ta’afuf and the Saudi Building & Development Management Company.

In 2009, the second phase of the project was put on hold indefinitely due to low market conditions.

In December 2011, the infrastructure work for the project was completed.

In December 2012, the Abraj Al Hilal 1 residential tower development first homes were handed over to customers and marked the ground-breaking for Abraj Al Hilal 2.

The construction contract was awarded to Azmeel Contracting & Construction Corporation for the Abraj Al Hilal 2 project in May 2013.

In May 2016, Arabian Construction Company (ACC) was appointed as contractor for Abraj Al Hilal 3.

SGW Safety and Security Ltd has been appointed as security consultant for the project.

Construction works on Abraj Al-Hilal 2 completed.

Construction works on Emaar Residences are underway.

Scope

The project involves construction of a mixed-use development on 50,0000m2 of land in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
