The Government of Australia is providing US$34 million for the project’s funding, and the Government of Queensland is providing US$8 million.

In July 2017, construction commenced.
Widening works between Mount Garnet and the Lynd are expected to be completed by 2018, and the progressive sealing works between The Lynd and Hughenden are expected to be completed by 2019.
As of August 2017, construction works are underway and are scheduled for completion by 2020.
