The Department of Electricity Development (DoED), is planning to construct a hydroelectric power plant in Achham District, Nepal.
The project involves the construction of a 20MW hydroelectric power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, tunnels, a reservoir, a substation and access roads, and the installation of turbines, generators, transformers and safety systems, and the laying transmission lines.
On March 22, 2013, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development agreed to provide US$18 million funds for the project.
On June 18, 2014, Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) agreed to provide a loan of US$30 million and the remaining US$12 million will be contributed by the Government of Nepal, through DoED.
In November 2015, SMEC and Udaya Consultancy won a contract to provide detailed engineering designs and environmental and social impact assessment services.
In September 2016, DoED issued an Invitation for Expression of Interest (EoI) for Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) of the transmission line.
On October 24, 2016, DoED re-issued an EoI for IEE of the transmission line, with submission last date on November 11, 2016.
On December 13, 2016, DoED issued a letter of intent to Desired Engineering Consultancy Pvt Ltd., for pre-feasibility study contract.
SMEC in association with Udaya Consultancy providing a review of existing feasibility and environmental impact study reports; detailed design of all civil works, hydraulic steel structures, electromechanical equipment, transmission lines and substations; and preparation of tender documents.
Study activities are underway.
