The Department of Corrections (DoC) is planning to undertake the expansion of Waikeria Prison in New Zealand.
The project involves the expansion of existing Waikeria Prison by adding new 1,500 beds. It includes the construction of a high-security wing, prison cells, an administration facility, a rehabilitation center and related facilities, the installation of safety and security systems, and the laying of electrical lines along the boundary walls.
The facility will be developed under a design, build, finance, and maintain (DBFM) basis on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in two stages.
Boffa Miskell Ltd has been appointed as the environmental consultant.
On December 9, 2016, the DoC issued an Advance Notice of Expressions of Interest (EOI) from construction contractors with last submission date on January 11, 2017. Later the submission deadline was extended to February 16, 2017.
In April 2017, DoC issued a Request for Proposal for the project and the contract is expected to be award in April 2018.
Tender along with planning activities are underway and construction works are scheduled to complete by the end of 2020.
