Deepwater Wind, LLC (DWL) is planning to build an offshore wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island, the US.
The project involves the construction of 90MW offshore wind farm. It includes the construction of a substation and related infrastructure, the installation of 15 wind turbines with capacity of 6MW each, two 15MW lithium battery storage technology on Long Island, in Montauk and Wainscott, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
General Electric Company has been appointed as supply contractor.
A meeting was scheduled on July 20, 2016, with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to receive approval from LIPA. However, the meeting was postponed after receiving a request by its partner agency New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA).
On January 25, 2017, LIPA board approved a 20-year pay-for-performance power purchase agreement for the project.
In January 2017, Government of New York approved the installation of the project.
Construction works expected to commence by 2019 and to be completed in 2022.
