The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is planning to undertake the construction of the Mega Manila Subway in Metro Manila, Philippines.
The project involves the construction of a 25km underground mass transportation system rail link comprising 13 stations, and will be implemented in phases. The first phase includes the construction of a rail link from Quezon City to Taguig City.
It includes the construction of tunnels, stations and the installation of rail tracks, signalling systems and safety systems.
The proposed 13 stations are along Mindanao Avenue, North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, Anonas, and Katipunan in Quezon City, Ortigas North and Ortigas South in Pasig City, Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City, Bonifacio Global City, Cayetano Boulevard, and Food Terminal Incorporated in Taguig and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
The project will be funded by The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Japan.
The Japan International Coordinating Agency (JICA) is undertaking the feasibility studies on the project.
In April 2017, the names of 13 stations were unveiled.
Japan committed to provide US$4,000 million for the development of the project. A meeting is scheduled in November 2017 to finalise the agreements.
Feasibility studies are underway, and are expected to complete by September 2017.
Construction works are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2019, and are scheduled for completion by 2022.
