The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) is duplicating a 303km Valadares BR 381 Highway between Belo Horizonte to Governador Valadares, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The project will be developed in 11 lots (1, 2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8A, 8B) and two phases. The initial phase of the project involves the construction work in six different lots:
The first lot 3.1 involves the duplication work of a 28.6km highway between stretch MG 320 Jaguaracu to Ribeirao Prainha between (km 288,4 – km 317).
The Lot 3.2 of the project involves the duplication work and the construction of an 825m tunnel at Rio Piracicaba.
The Lot 3.3 involves the duplication work of a highway and the construction of a 1280m tunnel at Antonio Dias and Prainha.
The Lot 4 of involves the duplication work of a highway between the stretch at Ribeirao Prainha and South access of Nova Era (km 317 – km 335,8).
The Lot 6 of the project involves the duplication work of a highway between the stretch at Joao Monlevade and Rio Una (km 356,5 – km 389,5) and the construction of a 280m tunnel of Morro Vieira.
The Lot 8A of the project involves duplication work of a highway between access of Caete (MG-435) and MG-020 – (km 427 to km 445).
DNIT had launched bidding documents of six lots for the duplication work of the highway BR 381 in the fourth quarter of 2012. In February 2013, the Federal Government of Brazil has cancelled the old tender and launched a new tender for the project.
In August 2013, DNIT has completed the bidding process and selected six companies to execute the construction works. However, DNIT had not disclosed names of the winner Companies.
In September 2013, the construction contract has been awarded for seven different lots. These lots are 1, 2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 6 and 7.
The consortium Isolux-Corsán/Engevix is responsible for the construction works on Lots 1, 2, 3.1, 4 and 6.
The consortium J.Dantas/SOTEPA has been awarded to execute the construction work for Lot 3.2.
The consortium Toniolo, Busnello/GP Consultoria won Lot 3.3.
The consortium Mota-Engil/Engesur is responsible for construction works on Lot 7.
In November 2013, Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente (IBAMA) released the service order to start the construction works.
In May 2014, lots - 1; 2; 3.1; 3.2 and 7 received service order to start the construction works.
Construction works on lots 3.2 and 3.3 has been completed.
In June 2016 Isolux-Corsán's construction contract was terminated for nonexecution of the works.
Construction Company Brasil (ECB) is responsible for construction works of Lot 3.1.
The federal government is planning to launch the new study tender for lots 1, 2, 5 and 6 and construction tender for the lot 4 is expected to be notified in December 2017.
