Directorate General of Railways, Ports, and Airport Construction (DLH), under the directive of Ministry of Transport and Communications, is undertaking the construction of Kanal Istanbul Mixed-Use Development project in Istanbul, Turkey.
The project involves the construction of a mixed-use facility. The project includes the construction of a 43km canal with a depth of 25m and width of 400m parallel to the existing Bosporus canal. The canal is planned to be built between Silivri and Catalca.
The project includes the construction of residential area, archaeological parks, six bridges, an airport, two megacities, shopping centers, three congress halls, and recreational areas.
In January 2012, a survey commenced for Istanbul's Canal project.
In July 2013, the project has been devised by the Environment and Urban Planning Ministry. It has been shared with the Istanbul Greater Municipality's (IBB) Zoning and Urban Planning Department. The municipality will present a review of the government once its experts complete their examination of the plan. Later, the plan will be made available for public examination at IBB and district municipalities.
As of July 2017, the feasibility study activities are underway and DLH is in the process of developing a financial model for that project.
