The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of India is planning to construct an industrial corridor between Chennai and Chitradurga via Bangalore.
The project involves the construction of 560km road from Chennai to Bengaluru to Chitradurga. It will include the construction of motorways, airports, industrial zones, ports, high speed railway, and related infrastructure, and the installation of signaling systems.
In October 2012, a preliminary study was conducted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Chennai-Bangalore corridor.
In March 2013, DIPP announced plans for the expansion of the Chennai-Bangalore corridor to Chitradurga.
In October 2013, JICA announced the launch of the study for the extended corridor.
In December 2013, JICA comes up with an interim report of the master plan.
In April 2014, JICA is in process of preparing comprehensive integrated master plan for the corridor.
On March 2017, State budget of government allocated US$62 million for land acquisition.
Planning activities are underway.
