Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) is planning to undertake the construction of a wind farm in Kahikinui, Hawaii, the US.
The project involves the construction of 60MW wind farm on 202ha of land. It includes the construction of an energy storage system, an interconnection substation, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of wind turbines, transformers, generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
DHHL has issued a request for letters of intent to develop renewable energy facilities on DHHL lands, including the Kahikinui land, Sempra U.S. Gas & Power responded to the request for a proposal.
In November 2015, DHHL awarded a right-of-entry permit and general lease to Boulevard Associates LLC, an affiliate of NextEra Energy (NEE). NEE will own and operate the project.
In August 2016, NEE has pulled out of the project.
DHHL is in negotiations with Sempra to develop the project and if the negotiation fails then will issue the request for proposals for new developers.
