The Darlington Borough Council (DBC) and Tees Valley Unlimited (TVU) are planning to upgrade a railway station in County Durham, the UK.
The project involves the construction of additional infrastructure to improve regional rail services. It will include the construction of a new platform to serve southbound trains and local services, an east entrance to the station in Garbutt Square and retail units in the station portico in Victoria Road, and the conversion of platform four to serve Bishop Auckland services at the northern end and possible bus services at the south.
Network Rail Ltd (NRL) will provide the majority funds required for a project.
NRL and Virgin Trains East Coast are responsible for overseeing/guide work on the master plan. Arup has been appointed as a planner.
In June 2014, DBC and TVU unveiled preliminary proposals and a draft report was submitted by TVU to the authorities, which include splitting and building new platforms and creating more commercial space.
As of February 2015, DBC is working with TVU to secure Local Growth Funding from the Government to create a feasibility study and action plan for the station.
In January 2016, Feasibility study activities were completed.
In May 2016, a Master plan for the project was completed.
In June 2016, developers are in the process of submitting proposals to the council.
In March 2017, design for project was unveiled.
