The City of Sarasota (CoS) is planning to construct the Sarasota Bayfront Redevelopment project in Sarasota County, Florida, the US.

The project involves the construction of a cultural district on 30.3ha of land. It includes the construction of an aquarium, a hotel, new orchestra house, conference center, retail facilities, parking garage and other related facilities.

CoS plans to undertake the project under public-private initiative.

HR&A Advisors has been appointed as the consultant for the project.

In the first quarter of 2014, Bayfront 20:20, a consortium formed by Seven Holdings, Arizona-based Company Governmental Facilities Development Services, Core Construction, Hoyt Architects, Mote Marine Laboratory, Visit Sarasota County has submitted its interest in preparing a master plan for the site.

In March 2014, the group outlined its plans to the Sarasota City Commission.

On February 16, 2015, the City Commission voted unanimously to approve a vision statement by Bayfront 20:20.

The CoS is in the process of compiling a detailed report and also forming a Technical Advisory Panel to develop a common technical knowledge base of the site. Their list of duties will include providing objective details on potential use, such as density and height constraints, as well as details on current leases.

In September 2015, the City Staff completed a complex Technical Report on all of the conditions on the site with representatives from Bayfront 20:20.

As of February 2016, study activities on orchestra's facility needs is underway and review of capital and operating cost estimates are expected to be announced in second quarter of this year.

The consultant's preliminary estimation for funding the initial planning phase is expected to cost at least US$1 million, which would be raised through private contribution by Bayfront 20:20.

In July 2016, CoS received US$100 million funding as donation from the Patterson Foundation and the remaining US$200 million funding will be received in installments for planning organization.

Study activities are underway.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a cultural district on 30.3ha of land at former site of the Sarasota Quay along the US 41 corridor near 10th Street in Sarasota, Florida, the US.

The US$300 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a Mote Aquarium

2. Construction of hotel

3. Construction of new orchestra house

4. Construction of conference center

5. Construction of space parking garage

6. Construction of related facilities
