The City of Helsinki (CoH) is planning to undertake the Kruunusillat Bridge Development project in the city of Helsinki, Finland.
The project involves the construction of a 3km long cable-stayed bridge. It will include the construction of a distinctive central 135m-tall pylon in the shape of a tall slender diamond, trams, pedestrians, bicycle access and other related infrastructure facilities.
Sito Oy has been appointed as traffic consultant.
In May 2011, Helsinki launched the design competition for the project by inviting the participation of multi-field teams from around the world. More than fifty teams applied and ten were selected for the actual competition phase.
In June 2013, the jury of the competition selected WSP Finland and Knight Architects as the design consultants for the project.
In November 2015, the project received approval from the Helsinki city council.
As of September 2016, Knight Architects revealed its design plans on the project development.
Geotechnical investigations are underway which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Construction is slated to commence by 2019 and complete by 2026.
