Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd (CVPPL), a Joint Venture Company of NHPC Limited, JKSPDC and PTC (India) Limited is undertaking plans for the construction of a hydro power plant in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
The project involves the construction of a run-of-river scheme 540MW (4X135) hydroelectric power plant with 101m height concrete gravity dam above river bed level, (109 m high above deepest foundation level) across river Chenab.
It includes the construction of four 5.65m dia underground circular steel lined Pressure Shafts, an underground power house with 4 turnines, two head-race tunnels of approximately 2.6km and 2.8km in length and 9.5m dia each and related infrastructure.
On October 28, 2013, Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board (JKSPCB)organized public hearing for environment clearance of 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project.
On May 6, 2014, CVPPL submitted Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (EIA) reports to the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for Environmental Clearance (EC).
On September 14, 2014, CVPPL secured approvals from the Union Council of Ministers for the project.
In July 2015, CVPPL issued a tender for observation of River Chenab by taking Gauge reading regularly at Kwar.
In December 2016, CVPPL has submitted the detail project report and waiting for necessary approvals.
On April 10, 2017, The Environment Clearance was issued by the ministry as per the recommendations of EAC.
Planning activities are underway and the project is expected to take 54 months for completion.
The project involves the construction of a 540MW hydroelectric power plant across river Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
