Coal Petroleum (Pty) Ltd (CP) and Kumvest (Pty) Ltd (Kumvest) are planning to undertake the construction of a CTL co-generation and fertilizer plant in North East District, Botswana.
The project involves the construction of a CTL co-generation and fertilizer plant with a capacity to produce 20,000 barrels per day (BPD) and deliver up to 304MW power to the Botswana national grid, which is planned to be developed in three phases.
It includes the construction of a coal preparation plant, processing units, production units, storage facilities and related infrastructure, and the installation of conveyor systems, related equipment, control units and safety and security systems.
CP and Kumvest will fund the project. Holland & Hausberger Pty Ltd has been appointed as technical advisor.
The Botswana Ministry of Minerals and Botswana Investment and Trade Center have undertaken the feasibility studies.
In October 2015, Botswana Oil Ltd (BOL) agreed in-principle to buy petroleum products from the plant.
In 2016, the project has been placed on hold, due to financial issues.
Planning activities are underway. Construction works are scheduled to be completed by 2020.
