ConocoPhillips Canada (COP) in a joint-venture with Total E&P Canada (TOT), is planning to construct the Surmont Phase 3 Oil Sands Development project in Alberta, Canada.

The project involves the construction of a 21,463.28m3/day (135,000 barrels per day (BPD)) bitumen production facility on an 8,908ha of land. The project will be implemented in three stages of 45,000BPD each namely Tranche 1, Tranche 2 and Tranche 3.

The project includes the construction of central processing facilities, SAGD (steam-assisted gravity drainage) well pads, roads, borrow pits, steam pipeline and emulsion pipeline. It includes the construction of fuel gas pipeline, diluent pipeline, storage tanks, sales oil storage tanks, export pipeline, water source, disposal wells, natural gas pipeline, electrical substations and power lines.

In March 2015, COP submitted the EIA application to the council.

In September 2016, COP received the EIA approvals from the council.

Planning activities are underway on the project.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a 21,463.28m3/day bitumen production facility on a 8,908ha of land at 60km southeast of Fort McMurray in the Athabasca region of northern Alberta, Canada.

The US$4,100 million project includes the following:

3. Construction of roads

4. Construction of steam pipelines

5. Construction of emulsion pipelines

6. Construction of fuel gas pipelines

7. Construction of diluent pipelines

8. Construction of storage tanks

11. Construction of disposal wells

12. Construction of natural gas pipelines

13. Construction of electrical substations
