Tullow Uganda Ltd (Tullow) a subsidiary of Tullow Oil plc, CNOOC Uganda Ltd (CNOOC), a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, and Total E&P Uganda (Total), a subsidiary of Total SA, are jointly planning to undertake the Kingfisher Oil Field project in Albertine region, Western Uganda.
The project involves the development an oil field with a production capacity of 2.32 million cubic meters per annum.
It includes the laying of 50km oil pipeline from Kingfisher well to Kabale and drilling of 40 wells, of which 27 would be producers and 13 would be injection wells.
The project includes the construction of the storage facilities, exploration platforms, central processing facilities, and oil storage tanks, the laying of pipeline and the installation of safety and security systems.
In November 2012, CNOOC submitted own field development plan together with the petroleum reservoir report on the project to the government of Uganda.
In September 2013, CNOOC obtained production license to develop the proposed project.
In September 2014, drilling of 4 well (a pre-development well) was commenced, which will help the developers to further determine the amount of the oil reserves in the region.
In March 2015, the developers stated that the project designs are being currently studied to incorporate further modular design elements in to the design.
In February 2017, FEED contract of US$2.5 million was awarded to Flour with China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation (CPECC), Technip and Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB&I).
In near future, along with FEED study, land acquisition and environmental impact and social assessment (ESIAs) will be taken place.
The Government of Uganda has given December 31, 2017, as a deadline for closing Final Investment Decision (FID). Construction is expected to complete by 2020.
The project involves the development of an oil field to produce 2.32 million cubic meters per annum in Albertine region, Western Uganda.
The US$2,000 million project includes the following:
