The Central Authorities Compania Nationala de Autostrazi si Drumuri Nationale SA (CNADNR) is undertaking the Corridor IV Bucharest to Nadlac motorway Expansion project in Romania.
The project involves the expansion of the 111km motorway to 620km. The extensions are Nadlac to Arad; Arad to Timisoara; Deva to Orastie; Orastie to Sibiu; Timisoara to Lugoj section; Sibiu to Pitesti section and Pitesti to Craiova section. The project will also include the construction of other segments between Bucharest and Nadlac.
The Nadlac to Arad section include the construction of 39km segment between Nadlac and Arad which is split into two parts.
The first part (22km) EPC contract was awarded in April 2011 to a consortium led by Romstrade and Monteadriano Engenharia e Construcao-Donep Construct; while the second section (17Km) EPC contract was awarded to Austrian company Alpine Bau.
The Arad to Timisoara section includes the construction of 44km segment between Arad and Timisoara and the construction contract was awarded to the consortium of FCC Constructions S.A, Porr Technobau and Umwelt Aktiengesellschaft.
The Deva to Orastie includes the construction of 32.5km segment between Deva and Orastie and the EPC contract was awarded to Strabag in December 2010 after numerous appeals by other competing companies.
The Timisoara to Lugoj includes the construction of 35km segment between Deva and Orastie and the contractor for Timisoara to Lugoj section (10km) is the Romanian-Italian consortium Spedition UMB, Tehnostrade (both controlled by Dorinel Umbrarescu, one of the so-called “asphalt kings”) and Carena SpA Impresa di Construzioni. The contract for the remaining 25km was awarded to Tirrena Scavi and Societa Italiana per Condotte d’Acqua-Cossi Costruzioni.
The 27.4km long Lugoj to Deva motorway will be designed and built by the consortium Tirrena Scavi and Societa Italiana per Condotte d’Acqua-Cossi Costruzioni.
The Orastie to Sibiu motorway (82km) was divided into four segments: the first (24km) was awarded to Austrian company Strabag; the second lot (20km) will be jointly built by Straco Group of Romania and Studio Corona SRL Civil Engineering of Italy; the third (22km) was won by the Italians of Impregilo; and the last segment (17km) went to the Italian-Romanian consortium Astaldi-Euroconstruct Trading ‘98 and Astalrom.
Impregilo has been awarded US$17 million material movement works contract for the third segment of the Orastie to Sibiu motorway to Boscafin Costruzioni Generali Srl (Boscafin).
The Sibiu to Pitesti motorway (123.89km) is divided into five segments: lot 1 is from Sibiu to Boita(14 km), lot 2 is from Boita to Cornetu (34.44 km), Lot 3 is from Cornetu tp Tigveni (35.30 km), Lot 4 is from Tigveni to Curtea de Arges (9.8 km) and Lot 5 is from Curtea de Arges to Pitesti(30.35 km).
The Lugoj to Deva motorway is divided into four segments: Lot 2 is 28 km which is being built by Salini Impregilo and Secol, Lot 3 is 21 km which is being built by Comsa and Lot 4 is 22km which is being built by Tehnostrade and Spedition UMB.
The Pitesti to Craiova motorway is 121 km in length.
In April 2011, construction works commenced.
The construction work on sections namely Sibiu - Orastie, Orastie - Deva, Lugoj - Timisoara, Timisoara - Arad, Arad - Nadlac completed.
In the third quarter of 2017, CNADNR issued design-build tender for lot 1 and lot 5 of the Sibiu to Pitesti motorway, with a submission date of October 27, 2017.
Tender evaluation activities on lot 1 and lot 5 of the Sibiu to Pitesti motorway and construction works on the Lugoj to Deva section are underway and the entire project is scheduled to complete in fourth quarter 2021.
