Cherokee Nation (CN) is undertaking an expansion at its W.W. Hastings Hospital in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, the US.
The expansion will include construction of a four-story additional healthcare facilities with 43,571m2 of space that increases the hospital beds from 62 to 100.
It Includes the construction of 80 exam rooms with access to an MRI machine, 10 new cardiac, lung and kidney specialists, an ambulatory surgery center and related infrastructure.
In January 2013, the Cherokee Nation and its business arm, Cherokee Nation Businesses (CNB), announced plans to invest US$100 million of CNB money into its health-care system over the next several years.
In March 2013, CN entered into an agreement with Indian Health Service (IHS) with US$100 million long term investment to overhaul the largest health care system in the U.S. operated by a tribe, followed by the CNB board of directors approvals in September 2013.
The expansion costs are to be covered under this investment.
The construction and renovations will be done through Cherokee Nation Construction Resources, a division of Cherokee Nation Businesses.
On February 17, 2017, construction works commenced and are underway with completion scheduled by 2019.
