Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) is planning to undertake the construction of Perur Desalination Plant project in Tamil Nadu, India.
The project involves the construction of a water desalination plant with a processing capacity of 400 million liters per day (MLD) on 36.4ha of land. It includes the construction of purification units, storage facilities, pumping stations, metering stations and related infrastructure, the installation of equipment, and the laying of pipelines.
CMWSSB submitted a planning application to Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board (TNIDB) and secured approval on September 23, 2014.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) appointed to undertake study works and sanction funds for a desalination plant while Indomer Coastal Hydraulics (P) Ltd as the environmental consultant.
The project will be built on Design-Build-Operate (DBO) basis and construction is expected to be completed within three years.
In October 2015, the department of economic affairs, under the finance ministry, forwarded a proposal to extend financial assistance for setting up the desalination plant to KfW.
CMWSSB is in the process of finalizing funds for the development.
