Carpentaria Gold Pty Ltd (CGPL), a unit of Resolute Mining Ltd (Resolute), plans to develop a gold mine in Queensland, Australia.
The project involves the development of a surface open-pit gold mine with a production capacity of 5MTPA. It includes the construction of a 100-room en-suite worker camp, a water treatment plant, power infrastructure, hydrochloric acid and liquefied petroleum gas storage facilities, workshops and an office space, the redevelopment of a crushing plant, and the upgrade of the Suhrs Creek raw water dam.
Coffey Environments Pty Ltd has been appointed as an environmental consultant, Orway Mineral Consultants (WA) Pty Ltd as an engineering consultant and GR Engineering Services Ltd as study consultant.
On July 28, 2011, CGPL submitted an application for approval to voluntarily prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 (EP Act).
On August 2, 2011, the application to prepare a voluntary EIS was granted by the Department of Environment and Resource Management.
In October 2011, the draft terms of reference (ToR) was released.
Following a period of public consultation, public comments were incorporated and the final ToR was published on February 11, 2012.
In July 2012, CGPL submitted a draft EIS to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP).
In March 2014, CGPL submitted a revised EIS after the previous draft EIS was suspended for further changes.
In June 2014, CGPL issued an EIS Assessment Report.
In September 2016, a feasibility study was completed.
On February 2, 2017, DEHP issued a draft amended environmental authority for the recommencement of mining at the Sarsfield open pit.
On March 3, 2017, Resolute announced that the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection have issued the final approved for the recommencement of development activities.
The project is awaiting further regulatory approvals.
