The project involves the construction of a 317km railway line between Beira and Machipanda, railway stations, bridges, culverts, signal control rooms and operating cabins, the installation of the transmission line and signalling systems and the laying of rail tracks.
Feasibility studies commenced in June 2014.
In June 2016, the MoT was negotiating with Chinese companies to carry out the construction.
In September 2016, Study works are completed.
The developers are in the process of raising funds for the development of the project.
