Cambodian Energy II Co Ltd (CEL2) is undertaking the construction of a coal-fired power plant in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The project involves the construction of a 135MW coal-fired power plant. It includes the construction of a fuel storage unit, combustion chambers, chimneys, cooling units, switch yard, coal storage and washing units, a powerhouse, and a substation, the installation of turbines, transformers and generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
CEL2 has been identified as the preferred bidder for the project by the Government of Cambodia in February 2017. Also, the project received approvals from the Cabinet of ministers.
The electricity generated from the plant will be sold to Electricité du Cambodge.
On February 27, 2017, CEL2 appointed Toshiba Plant Systems and Services Corp (TPSC), Japan along with its subsidiaries TPSC Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd and TPSC (Thailand) Co., Ltd. as a turnkey contractor for the project. TPSC will be responsible for the supply of equipment, engineering, construction, installation and testing of the power plant.
Alfa Geotech Co., Ltd and Technical World have been appointed as geotechnical consultants. The geotechnical works commenced in March 2017 and completed in April 2017.
TPSC appointed General Electric (GE) as the boiler, electrostatic precipitator, and steam turbine generation systems supply contractor in April 2017.
Construction activities on the project commenced in May 2017, and are currently underway with completion expected in 2019.
