Charlotte City Council (CCC) is planning to construct the Eastland Mall Redevelopment in North Carolina, the US.
The project involves the construction of a shopping mall on a 32ha area.
It includes the construction of eight sound stages on an area of 25,084m2, a 4,645m2 museum and 13,006m2 area for residential, hotel and other retail space.
The project will be developed in two phases, the first phase includes the construction of a studio and event space, 8 sound stages, production offices, a film school, museum and parking and other related facilities.
The second phase includes the construction of a 125 residential lofts, a hotel, a movie theater and space for retail and commercial projects, as well as a school.
In June 2013, Studio Charlotte Development (SDC) is a partnership between Charlottean Bert Hesse and PacificaVentures LLC and ARK Ventures submitted proposals for new film studio.
CCC selected SCD to under take the development. Under the terms SCD will work with private investors and city's economic development team to redevelop the old mall.
Environmental Holdings Group (EHG) LLC has been appointed as an demolition contractor for the project.
AECOM has been appointed as engineering consultant.
In September 2013, the demolition works on the old mall commenced.
In June 2014, plans on construction of a new film studio has placed on hold.
In second quarter 2016, CCC appointed Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena sketch his idea for the project.
In November 2016, CCC issued Request for Qualification (RFQ) for providing design, engineering, and development master planning services with submission deadline of December 21, 2016.
In December 2016, 15 companies submitted the proposal for providing design, engineering, and development master planning services, which are namely: American Metroplan, BCT Architects, Cooper Carry, Design Collective, Design Workshop Inc., EDSA, HR&A, Jacobs, MKSK, MXD Development Strategists Ltd., Odell Associates Inc., RKG Associates Inc., Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP, Stantec Consulting Services and Torti Gallas and Partners.
In March 2017, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (Jacobs) has been appointed to provide design, engineering, and development master planning services along with Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ) as design consultant and Noell Consulting Group as marketing consultant.
As of June 2017, Jacobs is preparing the master plan and is in the process of public consultant. Jacobs is expected to submit the report by October 2017.
