Corporacion America (CASA) along with the other companies are undertaking the Bioceanic Aconcagua Corridor project in Argentina and Chile.
The project is being carried out in two phases. Phase I includes the construction of a 52km tunnel through the Andes at an altitude of 2000m–2500m, as well as a single rail line to transport cargo.
Phase II which is due to take place after completion of Phase I, will involve adding another tunnel and three more rail lines to include both passenger and cargo services.
A consortium Sociedad Bioceánico Aconcagua has been formed to execute this project. The consortium of companies is CASA (62%), Empresas Navieras (15%), Mitsubishi Corp (10%), Contrera Hermanos (10%) and Geodata (3%).
Geodata is also responsible for the feasibility study, preliminary design, and basic design.
CASA had submitted the completed study report to respective governments.
Planning activities of the project are underway and the consortium is awaiting the planning approvals from both the governments.
The Bioceanic Aconcagua Corridor project involves the construction of a rail tunnel linking between Chile and Argentina.
The US$5,000 million project includes the following:
