Barrett Visionary Development (BVD) is undertaking the construction of the mixed-use development in Wisconsin, the US.
The project involves the construction of a 44-story mixed-use building called “The Couture” on a 65,032m2 area.
It includes the construction of 312 apartments, 3,716m2 of commercial space, 426m2 transit center, 907m2 restaurant space, 2,070m2 grocery store and a 752m2 medical office., 147 public spaces, a rooftop park, a public transportation concourse, a streetcar stop, a walkway to the lakefront, a bike sharing station, public parking, 1,019 parking spaces, a public plaza and other related facilities.
Rinka Chung Architecture, Inc has been appointed as architect and in June 2014, BVD dropped plans to construct a 180-room hotel.
BVD is to purchase the former Downtown Transit Center property for US$500,000.
In August 2015, Preserve Our Parks a Milwaukee-based preservation group has withdrawn a lawsuit seeking to block construction of the project.
On April 4, 2016, FTA has provided its concurrence on County’s disposition plan for the Downtown Transit Center, which paves way for the construction of the project.
J.H. Findorff & Son Inc has been appointed as general contractor and demolition contractor for the project In 2016, following tendering process between Findorff, Hunzinger Construction Company and Providence and Gilbane Building Co.
Thornton Tomasetti Inc is appointed as a structural engineer.
In August 2016, developer completed the purchase of the Downtown Transit Center from Milwaukee County.
In the fourth quarter of 2016, demolition works commenced and completed in early 2017.
In January 2018, BVD has reopened the bidding process for general contractor of the project.
Findorff, Hunzinger Construction Company and Providence and Gilbane Building Co. are again competing for the contract. Other firms could also be considered.
BVD is expected to conduct groundbreaking in 2018 and construction would take 30 months for completion.
