Bangladesh Railway (BR) is upgrading the rail corridor between Laksam and Akhaura in Bangladesh.
The project involves the upgrade of a 72km rail corridor between Laksam and Akhaura. It includes the construction of 46 bridges and culverts, 11 B-class rail stations and related infrastructure, the installation of lighting and signaling units, equipment and safety systems, and the laying of railway tracks.
In October 2015, BR received US$12 million fund from Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and the remaining will be sourced from Asian Development Bank (ADB) and European Investment Bank (EIB).
On February 28, 2016, the consortium includes Dohwa Engineering Co. Ltd, Korea Rail Network Authority, Oriental Consultants Global Ltd, Balaji Railroad Systems Ltd and Development Design Consultants Ltd as consultants for the development.
On June 15, 2016, China Toma Construction (CTM) a joint venture of China Railway Group Limited, Toma Construction and Co Ltd and Max Infrastructure Ltd. was appointed as the construction contractors for the development.
Orient Integrated Development Consultants, Inc (Orient) has been appointed as Management Contractor.
Construction works commenced in November 2016.
Construction works are underway scheduled for completion in December 2018.
