Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Bhutan Electricity Authority (BEA) and Ministry of Power (MoP) are planning to build a hydro power plant in Lhuentse, Lhuentse District, Bhutan.
The project involves the construction of 1,125MW hydro power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, control rooms, a substation, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of generators, turbines and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
In January 2016, the Bhutan Government had drafted a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tri-lateral energy cooperation and sent it to Bangladesh and India.
In February 2016, the Bangladesh Government gave its approval towards the project.
In 2017, the India government finalized the MoU and sent it to Bhutan.
BEA will invest a US$1,000 million to build the project.
