Bihar Mega Power Limited (BMPL) a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFCL) is planning to build a power plant in Banka district, Bihar, India.
The project involves the construction of a 4,000MW coal-fired power plant on 1,031ha of land. It includes the construction of a fuel storage unit, combustion chambers, chimneys, cooling units, a switch yard, coal storage and washing units and related facilities, the installation of turbines, generators and safety systems and the laying of transmission lines.
BMPL will undertake the study activities for the project.
In March 2013, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) approved plans for the development.
In September 2014, MoP appealed to Bihar government to allot land and water for the project.
PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) has appointed as lead consultant for the project.
On July 15, 2015, MoP Issued tender for appointing technical consultant for site feasibility study, acquisition of land, conducting various technical studies and obtaining MoEF/SPCB clearances with bids submission due date as July, 30, 2015. However, the bid submission due date was extended to August 19, 2015.
Desein Private Limited (DPL) has been appointed as the technical consultant.
In March 2016, an agreement has been signed between the Union Ministry of Power, North Bihar Power Distribution Company and South Bihar Power Distribution Company for the distribution of power.
In April 2016, DPL submitted Terms of Reference (TOR) and pre-feasibility report.
In June 2016, the project received Terms of Reference (TOR) approvals from the Expert Appraisal Committee and 987ha of land has been identified for the development of the project.
In June 2016, BMPL is in the process of acquiring land for the project.
Awaiting for pre-permit approvals and construction activities are scheduled to be completed by 2021.
