Botswana Innovation Hub (Pty) Ltd (BIH), a company incorporated by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology (MIST), is undertaking the construction of an innovation hub in Botswana.

The project involves the construction of an innovation hub and is being implemented in phases.

The first phase included the construction of roads infrastructure, drainage and sewerage systems, as well as water and power systems. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) was appointed as construction contractor and Arup BV as facade contractor for this phase. Construction works on this phase commenced in October 2010 and were completed in December 2011.

The second phase involves the construction of a 28,799m2 science and technology park on a 57ha area, which includes the construction of high quality road infrastructure, street lighting and power ICT connectivity, construction of office and research building, conference facilities, the Okavango Library for Knowledge Exchange, and the Chobe office.

The project also includes the construction of laboratories, access roads, parking and related infrastructure facilities.

Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has been appointed to manage and coordinate design and construction of infrastructure, which includes master planning/urban design, infrastructure design and construction and design and construction of the icon building and annexes.

A joint venture of Caitec Botswana and Jiangsu Zhengtai Construction Group Co. (Zenghtai) has been appointed as main contractor, Sharps Electrical as subcontractor, Mmile Mhutsiwa and Associates as quantity surveyor, SHoP Architects, Aikagroup, Technopolis Plc and Nuttall Smith Architects as design architects for second phase.

Buro Happold and North Atlantic Consulting Engineers have been appointed as as MEP engineers, Langan International, WSP Group Africa (Pty) Ltd, Systems & Services Engineers as electrical engineer, Pula Consultants as civil and geotechnical engineers, Hood Design and Green, Inc. as landscape architects, Tillotson Design Associates as lighting consultant, and AMA Projects Botswana as project manager for second phase.

In 2013, the construction works on offices and research building commenced. On August 11, 2014, construction works on Science and Technology Park commenced.

Construction works are underway.


The project involves the construction of a Science and Technology hub in Gaborone, Botswana.

The US$56 million project includes the following:
