Birmingham International Airport Ltd (BIAL), in collaboration with the UK Airports Commission, is planning to undertake the expansion of its airport in the UK.
The project involves the construction of a second runway and a new terminal building that increases the airport’s passengers handling capacity to 70 million per annum. The second runway to built on land alongside the M42 to the east of the airport and will link up with the proposed HS2 line.
The project will include the construction of a passenger terminal building, administrative buildings, new retail outlets, waiting halls, parking facilities and related facilities.
In December 2013, the plans for the expansion were rejected in the interim report of the Airports Commission, appointed by the government.
Birmingham Airport is undertaking a review of The Master Plan - 'Towards 2030' and will reveal by the end of 2017.
