In August 2016, BDL filed a resource consent application for the demolition of the 104-year-old building.
In October 2016, BDL expressed interest in buying the car park from the council and in November 2016, BDL purchased the Timaru District council-owned car park for the project implementation.
In April 2017, BDL secured approval for the demolition Hydro Grand Hotel.
On November 18 2017, demolition works completed on the Hydro Grand Hotel.
