Brisbane City Council (BCC) plans to construct the metro rail project in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The project involves the construction of 21km high-frequency metro rail line across the existing bus-way that links Eight Mile Plains, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) and University of Queensland (UQ) Lakes and all bus-way stations in between.
It involves the construction of two new high-capacity, high-frequency metro lines from Eight Mile Plains bus-way station to Roma Street bus-way station (Metro 1) and RBWH bus-way station to UQ Lakes bus-way station (Metro 2).
The project also involves the construction of 18 stations, platforms, interchanges, ticketing counters, upgrade of 17 existing stations and the installation of 60 metro vehicles, signalling systems and safety systems.
In 2016, BCC started detailed assessment studies on the project.
In May 2017, BCC released the Brisbane Metro Business Case of the detailed assessment report.
In June 2017, BCC issued US$37 million funds from Brisbane City Council budget 2017-2018 and confirmed to bear two-thirds of the project cost.
BCC is in discussions with Queensland and Australian Federal Government for funds to develop the project. Construction works expected to start in 2019 and completion by 2022.
