AltaLink LP (AltaLink), in collaboration with Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), is planning to construct a power transmission line in Pincher Creek, Southern Alberta, Canada.
The project involves construction of a new 240kV double-circuit transmission line approximately 20–41km from the Castle Rock Ridge substation to the proposed Chapel Rock substation.
It includes the construction of the new Chapel Rock substation, a new telecommunications tower and related infrastructure, the laying of 1–13km of new 500kV transmission line, expansion of the Castle Rock Ridge substation, and the installation of two transformers, two capacitor banks and a shunt reactor.
Stantec has been appointed as environmental consultant.
In October 2014, AltaLink held public consultations.
In June 2015, AltaLink held open house session to discuss about the maps and models of the proposed routes, information on the different types of power structures, wildlife mitigation, magnetization and payment options for affected landowners.
AltaLink filed an application with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) on May 13, 2016, and expects to secure project approvals.
Construction works are scheduled to complete by fourth quarter of 2019.
