Athabasca Oil Corporation (ATH), formerly Athabasca Oil Sands Corp., is planning to undertake the Birch Thermal Oil Facility project in Alberta, Canada.
The project involves the construction of a central processing facility to produce 155,000 barrels of bitumen per day (BPD), from an oil field on 190,202.25ha area. The project is planned to be developed in phases.
The project is expected to yield more than 1,900 million barrels of contingent resources by building infrastructure and production facilities in multiple phases.
The initial phase of the project is expected to have a bitumen production capacity of 12,000 barrels per day (BPD).
The development will use SAGD recovery method to produce recoverable bitumen.
