Assam Petrochemicals Ltd (APL) is undertaking the expansion of a methanol plant in Assam, India.
The project involves the expansion of a methanol production plant from 100 tonnes per day (TPD) of methanol to 600TPD. It includes the construction of a transfer line exchanger, a gas compressor, storage tanks and access roads and the installation of stem cracker, a quench tower, a chilling train and safety systems.
The project will use natural gas based technology and natural gas will be provided by Oil India Ltd (OIL).
The techno economic feasibility report (TEFR) has been prepared by FACT Engineering & Design Organization (FEDO) and TCE Consulting Engineers Ltd appointed as PMC contractor.
In August 2012, APL received clearance from the government.
On May 19, 2014, APL received environment clearance from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF)
In September 2014, Engineers India Ltd (EIL) was appointed as lead consultant. The scope of the contract covers license, engineering, procurement and construction management (LEPCM) services.
Haldor Topsoe (Topsoe) has been appointed as technological consultant.
Around 70% of the project will be funded through bank loans and 30% will be provided by APL.
In March 2015, engineering activities commenced.
In October 2015, APL invited bids for the site grading works.
On January 18, 2016 EIL invited bids for piling works with submission deadline as on February 8, 2016.
On January 29, 2016, EIL issued request for quotation (RFQ) for supply of pressure vessel.
On May 7, 2017, bhoomi puja was performed at the site, marking the commencement of construction works on the project.
Construction works are underway and expected to be completed by April 2019.
