The Airports of Thailand Public Co. Ltd (AOT) is undertaking the expansion of Phuket International Airport in Thailand.
The project involves the expansion of existing airport facilities with passenger handling capacity from current 6.5 million to 12.5 million passengers per year.
It includes the construction of taxiways and 11 parking bays for aircraft, a four-story, 72,338m2 new international passenger terminal, a new cargo building, new roads and improved transport systems, a parking garage for the international terminal, a new airport office and airline offices, improvements in car parking areas and conversion of the existing international terminal into a domestic terminal.
The project also includes the construction of a new facility called "Terminal X". It will serve as a passenger and baggage check-in facility for departing international charter flights.
Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company has been appointed as the construction contractor for the project.
In October 2012, Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company commenced construction works.
In January 2014, construction works were completed on the Terminal X.
A four story new international passenger terminal of the project was officially opened on September 16, 2016.
Construction work on the remaining project is expected to be completed by September 2017.
