Azienda Ospedaliera Perugia (AOP) is undertaking the expansion of Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine, Italy.

The project involves the construction of a seven-story hospital building on 5.6ha of land. It includes 243 ordinary beds, 48 intensive care beds, 44-day hospital beds, 30 temporary observation beds, nine operating theaters, an emergency room, offices, surgeries and a conference room, a parking garage, and the installation of medical equipment, elevators, safety and security systems.

The public tender was awarded to the joint venture consisting of the following leading Italian contracting companies: Grandi Lavori Fincosit s.p.a., Milani Giovanni s.p.a. and Panzeri s.p.a.

Deerns along with Studio Amati, MAIN Management & Ingegneria and Thema Design are responsible for the entire design up to the preparatory drawings for the construction phase. In particular, Deerns will use BIM technology to develop the MEP design.

Grandi Lavori Fincosit S.P.A. has been appointed as a contractor to complete the cutting operations of about three hundred trees in the area between Via Chiusaforte and Via Colugna.

Site clearing activities are underway. Construction is expected to commence in 2018 with completion scheduled in 2020.
