Summary

PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM), and PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM), through their joint venture PT Inalum Antam Alumina, and China Aluminum Co. (CHALCO), are planning to undertake the construction of Smelter Grade Alumina Factory project in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The project involves the construction of a smelter grade alumina refinery (SGAR) with a capacity of 2 million tonnes of alumina by processing 6 million wet metric tonnes (wmt) bauxite ore.

It includes the construction of fluid bed or fluid flash calciners.

The project will be implemented in two stages. The annual capacity of the initial stage of the SGAR is 1 million tonnes of alumina. The construction of the additional capacity of 1 million tonnes of SGAR will commence when the operations of the first phase of the plant is positive.

In July 2010, ANTM signed a joint venture agreement with Hangzhou Jinjiang Group (HJG) of China to develop the SGAR project. However, in August 2011, ANTM decided to build the project on its own by canceling the partnership with HJG, following disagreements with HJG.

ANTM will fund the project through a loan, 65% of which would be funded externally while 35% will come from internal funds.

In February 2015, ANTM selected INALUM as a partner to develop the project.

In December 2015, ANTM and INALUM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CHALCO to undertake the development.

On April 14, 2016, ANTM and INALUM signed Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) and formed a company called PT Inalum Antam Alumina for the implementation of the project.

As of January 2018, the feasibility study is underway and expected to be completed in April 2018.Scope
