Airports Fiji Limited (AFL) is planning to undertake the expansion of Nausori International Airport project in Viti Levu Island, Fiji.
The project involves the expansion of airport facilities. It is planned to be developed in three stages.
The first stage involves the improvement of the operational safety of the current runway, which includes the widening the runway, strengthening the adjacent grass runway strip; and the installation of lighting to facilitate night-time operations, security and safety systems.
The second stage will involve the construction of a new international terminal and a new control tower; and the expansion of the airport apron, which will be located next to the new terminal.
The third stage comprises an extension to the runway from its existing 1,868m to 2,300m.
Rendel Palmer & Tritton has been appointed as master planner for the project.
The project will be funded by government and AFL.
In May 2016, AFL received an offer of 35ha land from Director of Lands for the project.
On February 25, 2017, AFL issued a tender to appoint an engineering consultant for conducting scoping study, with last submission date as March 3, 2017.
