Albatros Energy (AE) is planning to undertake the construction of a thermal power plant in Uganda.

The project involves the construction of a 230MW oil based thermal power plant. It will include the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, chimneys, cooling units, oil storage tanks, oil receiving stations and other related facilities, and the installation of oil pipelines, and water pipelines and the laying of transmission lines.

The oil required for the plant will be sourced from Tullow Oil PLC, which owns one block in the Lake Albert basin and co-owns other two with Heritage Oil PLC.

The power plant will be developed using advanced technology that would reduce carbon dioxide emission besides burning less fuel with higher output.

The project was temporarily stalled in April 2014.

As of July 2017, planning activities are underway.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a 230MW oil based thermal power plant in Hoima, Tororo, Uganda.

The US$250 million project includes the following:
