Highways England Company Ltd (HE), an agency under the Government of the UK is undertaking the construction of a road corridor between Taunton, Honiton and Amesbury, Somerset, the UK.

The project involves the construction a road corridor. It includes the construction of a bypass road, tunnels, pedestrian walkways, safety barriers and bridges, and the installation of traffic signals and security systems. The project is developed in three improvement schemes.

The first scheme known as A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down dualling, includes the construction of a twin-bored tunnel of 2.8km from A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down. The road passes through Stonehenge and a bypass for Winterbourne Stoke to link the existing dual carriageway section around Amesbury with the dual carriageway at Berwick Down.

The second scheme known as A303 Sparkford to Ilchester dualling, includes the dualling of the 4.8km single carriageway section of the A303 between Sparkford and Ilchester.

The third scheme known as A358 Taunton to Southfields dualling, includes the construction of a dual carriageway link from the M5 at Taunton to the A303.

In January 2013, Sectional Economic Analysis has been completed and in February 2013, Economic impact study was completed for the project.

In April 2013, Corridor improvement program was held. In December 2014, plans have been announced in the National Infrastructure Plan.

On January 12, 2016, Arup and Atkins have been awarded the design consultant contract worth of US$27 million for improvement of the A303 between Amesbury and Berwick Down. The scope of the contract includes technical services including highway and tunnel design, environmental and geotechnical engineering, acoustics and prepare a public consultation on options in readiness for a preferred route announcement.

In December 2015, Grontmij and Mott MacDonald Ltd were appointed as design consultant for the project.

In August 2016, Devon County Council (DCC) launched a public consultation program on potential route alignments for 2 months.

On August 3, 2016, HE issued tender for civil engineering consultancy services for the project with a submission deadline on September 28, 2016.

Although the project is managed by HE, DCC is developing the scheme to a preferred route stage before making an application to the Department for Transport to fund the scheme.

HE along with Somerset County Council (SCC) and Taunton Deane Council (TDC), considering to conduct public consultations.

HE is developing improvements to the A358 and the A303 east of Southfields and on other sections of the A303/A30.

In January 2017, public consultation underway for Stonehenge tunnel section consultaion complete for rest of the sections.

On April 20, 2017, Aecom Ltd appointed as civil engineering consultancy services for the project.

Public consultation is underway.
