The Highway England (HE) formerly known as Highway Agency is undertaking the A1 Leeming to Barton Road improvement project in North Yorkshire, the UK.
The project involves the upgrade of existing 19.3km dual carriageway to a three lane motorway between Junction 51 at Leeming and Junction 56 at Barton.
The project will includes provision of a new local access road alongside the new motorway, improving safety for local traffic from the surrounding communities. Access to the strategic road network will be via a new grade separated junction at Catterick and an improved junction at Scotch Corner.
The project also includes the improving Station Road bridge and Bridge Road bridge, closing the disused railway bridge, demolishing the existing and construction of a new Fort Bridge and Tunstall Bridge , construction of a new temporary slip road on to the northbound A1, a new bridge linking Kneeton Lane over A1 near Scotch Corner, and temporary widening works around Catterick Lane.
AECOM, Grontmij and Sweco have been appointed as design contractors, and Atkins as consulting engineer and the joint venture of Morgan Sindall Group Plc and Carillion as construction contractor.
PTS Demolition and Dismantling has been appointed as demolition contractor.
In March 2014, construction works commenced.
On January 15, 2018, Carillion Plc was liquidated due to bankruptcy and Morgan Sindall Group Plc will undertake the remaining works on the project.
Construction works are underway with completion scheduled in the first quarter of 2018.Scope
