Hard Disk Drives Procurement in the US
This report is intended to assist buyers of hard disk drives (HDDs). HDDs are high-capacity, self-contained computer memory storage devices that use several disks, or platters, to store data. HDDs employ a read-write mechanism wherein information from the rapidly rotating internal disk is retrieved using a magnetic head on a moving actuator arm, which reads and writes data to the surface of the platter. HDDs use random access memory in which individual blocks of data are stored and retrieved, even when the device is turned off. Computers, laptopsand other computer-based devices use HDDs. Buyers of HDDs are consumers, businesses and government agencies. Suppliers include manufacturers and retailers. This report does not cover solid-state drives (SSDs), flash memory devices or floppy disks.
