Survey of Undergraduates: Plans for Medical School in the USA or Abroad
This 64-page study presents detailed data on the medical school application plans of a reprsentative sample of 1,566 full time undergraduates at 4-year colleges in the United States. The study gives specific data on plans for medical school applications, and in a separate data set on plans for medical schools outside of the United States. In addition, those sampled list the medical schools to which they are most likely to apply.
We asked: How likely are you to apply to medical school at some point in the future. We gave six possible answers to this multiple choice question, which were: 1) Highly Unlikely, 2) Unlikely, 3) Possibly, 4) Likely, 5) Highly Likely and 6) I have already applied. A strong majority, 63.22%, had ruled out medical school and thought it highly unlikely that they would apply while another 19.22% thought it unlikely. However, 8.68% believed it possible that they would apply, and another 2.11% thought it likely; 5.87% believed it to be highly likely and 0.57% had already applied
